I offer an assessment of the potential impact of cognitive science on
learning policies. The main thesis is that there can be no frictionless discussion of the issue
of impact. Societal context is key factor in determining which policies are to be
implemented. Along the way, some suggestions are offered for redesigning some aspects of
the learning situation.
